[ Five ways to begin ]

SERVICES

Each one began as a letter someone couldn't send.

Bundle of old letters tied with twine and a rose wax seal

Sessions are 50 minutes. The first fifteen-minute conversation is free. Fees from £50, with a small number of reduced-fee spaces kept open for those who need them.

I don't know how to say this…

I'm fine. Everyone thinks I'm fine. I go to work, I answer messages, I laugh in the right places. But I'm not fine, and I haven't been for a while, and I don't know who I'd even tell.

We meet one to one, weekly or fortnightly, for fifty minutes. There's no script and no right place to begin. Some people arrive knowing exactly what they want to talk about; others sit with a cup of tea for ten minutes before a word comes. Both are welcome. Over time we find the shape of what's been heavy, and what might help you carry it differently.

It's 3am where I am…

I can't sleep. I found your website and I'm writing this before I talk myself out of it. I can't get to Portstewart — I'm not sure I could even get out of the house right now.

Sessions by secure video or phone, from wherever you feel safest — your kitchen table, your car, under a blanket. Online work is every bit as real as sitting in the room. It suits people across the UK, people with busy or unpredictable lives, and people for whom leaving the house is part of what's hard.

I can't sit in a room and talk.

Every time I imagine it, my chest goes tight. Facing someone across a box of tissues. I need to move. I think better when I'm moving. Can we walk?

We walk side by side along the Portstewart coast path or the Strand — at your pace, in most weathers. Walking shoulder to shoulder takes the pressure off eye contact, and the sea has a way of loosening things. We agree on confidentiality and a route beforehand, and we can always step back indoors.

I've written this letter ten times…

And deleted it ten times. Words don't work for me. They come out wrong, or not at all. Is there another way to do this? Can we try something else?

Sometimes feelings arrive before language does. We can use drawing, collage, writing letters you'll never send, objects, sand and stones — nothing that needs artistic skill. The making isn't the point; what it shows us is. Many people find they say more with their hands than they ever managed out loud.

We're writing separate letters.

We're sitting in the same room, writing separate letters. We can't say it to each other any more. Every conversation turns into the same argument and then silence.

A space for two people to be heard by each other again — not to decide who's right. Together we slow the familiar arguments down, notice what's underneath them, and practise new ways of speaking and listening. For couples staying together, considering separating, or simply stuck.

[ Questions people ask quietly ]

Before you write

You don't need to be in crisis, and you don't need a reason that sounds big enough. If something has felt heavy for a while, that is reason enough. Our first conversation is a chance to see how it feels — no commitment.

We'll talk a little about what's brought you here, what you'd like to be different, and any questions you have about how I work. You choose how much you share. Many people are surprised by how gentle it is.

Sessions are 50 minutes, usually weekly to begin with. Some people come for six sessions, others for longer. We review together regularly so it always feels like your choice.

Yes. What you say stays between us, within the limits of my professional ethical framework — which I'll explain clearly at the start, including the rare situations where safety would come first.

They do. Research and experience both show online therapy can be as effective as in-person work. Many clients find it easier to open up from somewhere familiar.

That's completely okay, and very common. Silence is allowed. We can start with something small, or with the not-knowing itself.

You don't need the right words. You only need the first one.
